Giant Jiu Jitsu Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
Giant Jiu Jitsu (GJJ) is committed to providing a safe and positive environment for all participants. This policy applies to all instructors, volunteers, and members. We acknowledge our duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children (under 18) and vulnerable adults.
2. Principles
The welfare of the child/vulnerable adult is paramount.
All participants, regardless of age, gender, ability, or background, have a right to protection from abuse.
All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
3. Personnel & Training
DBS Checks: All GJJ instructors hold current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Qualifications: All instructors have completed the UKBJJA Safeguarding Course and maintain recognized BJJ coaching credentials.
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Head Instructor Jack Morris (07542407963) is the primary point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
4. Code of Conduct
Instructors must avoid 1-to-1 situations with children in unobserved areas.
Physical contact is necessary for teaching BJJ but must be appropriate to the age and stage of the student and delivered in an open environment.
GJJ maintains a strict "no-cameras in changing areas" policy.
5. Reporting Procedures If a member or parent has a concern:
Report immediately to the DSL or Head Instructor.
If the child is in immediate danger, contact the police (999) or local Children’s Social Care.
All incidents will be recorded in a confidential safeguarding log.
6. Review
This policy is reviewed annually or following any changes in UK legislation or UKBJJA guidelines. Last Updated: April 2026
